Albert Elia

Since joining the NFB in 2007, Al has served on affiliate, chapter, and state division boards in D.C., Massachusetts, New York, and Washington. He has also served on the boards of the National Association of Blind Lawyers, as well as the National Association of Guide Dog Users, where he currently serves as Vice President. He was a member of the NFB scholarship class of 2013 while attending law school at Northeastern University. Outside of NFB, he has served on the board of the Disability Rights Bar Association and the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Air Carrier Access Act Advisory Committee.

Al is a Senior Staff Attorney at Disability Law United, where he exclusively represents people with disabilities who have suffered discrimination because of their disabilities in the world or online. He has consulted for the media, businesses, and governments on current and proposed disability-access obligations and best-practices. He has also presented online and given guest lectures on technology access and the law.

Al is an avid reader, cook, and traveler. He usually reads about a hundred books per year, likes finding ways to adapt stovetop recipes for the oven, and has visited 19 countries and 33 U.S. states. He is also an avid technologist following a fifteen year career in that field.
